Ghostly Klara - Reworked

ReWorking Ghosts

You have heard me say this before, I had planned on doing something different, but got distracted by another image.  When I planned what I was going to rework today, this image did not come to mind. I took this image 18 months ago.  I used my neutral density filter to give me a longer exposure so Klara would look like a ghost.  The neutral density filter I had was crap and turned everything pink.  I have learned so much since this image that I am more confident about getting rid of the pink. Today I spent a lot more time on it.  I tried to get rid of the pink tinge, and I think that worked.  You, hopefully, will notice that the image has been cropped.  I think that works much better and maybe I could have done it more.  I didn’t try too hard to get rid of the white outside, but I am not too fussed with it. I did some blurring with it and changed the lighting inside the shed to …

Interior in Silver Efex

Inside the Asylum

When I put up the exterior image of Larundel Mental Asylum I had quite a few requests from you to show you the interior. I didn’t really see much of the inside, but I do have some images for you, though only one today.  Hopefully I am enjoying my weekend in Harrietville and you will be happy with this image. This interior is in one of the buildings and upstairs.  It is quite a mess, pretty much as you would expect.  I can imagine this would have been a lovely room once.  It was a big room, some sort of recreation room, and there are offices, or were, down each end.  There were lovely windows with some nice features in them.  In a room off to the left there has been a fire and you can see daylight through the roof. I am not sure about the processing of this image.  I do think you will end up seeing it in one of the Friday reworks.  Though, because I could, I tried the image out …

GPO Done with Color Efex Pro

GPO Three Ways

The internet and WordPress has been buzzing with the latest news from Nik Software by Google.  I thought it was time for me to keep you up to date with what is happening.  You can now get all of their programs in a special package for $149.  That is really amazing and a fantastic deal.  So to remind you of some of their programs, today I thought I would show you an image from my early morning in the city the other day and process it with some of the software. I processed this image as a HDR and then put it through camera raw in Photoshop.  I darkened it a big, maybe too much looking at it now.  Though for the next images I used the undarkened image. Then the image was processed with Color Efex.  I love the different looks you can get.  It is really nice.  The filter sunlight was used for this one.  It has given it a lovely soft glow.  I might have to use this one more often. You …

Getting a Cooler Perspective

We are having some warmer weather again, so I am hiding inside with the air conditioner  and moving around isn’t great.  Best to keep as still as possible.  I decided for today’s post I would go through some of my old images and see what I had that hadn’t shown you before.  Point Lonsdale came to mind.  It cooled me down instantly. To read about the image and to see more images continue reading here. There is also information about a contest in the post today.  Check it out.

Stretching Up - Silver Efex

Same Scene Different Composition – Part 2

Just over a week ago I did an image of the tower from the Manchester Unity Building and called it Part 1, I knew when I did it that I would want to try doing it again.  I like this version a lot better than the other one.  I did a lot more to draw out the details in the image using the blur feature and masking.  I also redid the sky.  I didn’t go all the way back to the start, but rather chose an earlier state. I am not totally happy with this composition.  I like it in the portrait mode, though I really want to go back now and take more photos.  I think I know what I want to get now.  I feel as though I understand the building so much more now.  I know I was invited to come and take photos, but there is a point where I don’t want to wear out my welcome.  I hope they will let me come back to do the tower again. Since …

One Tree Hill - Silver Efex

ReWorking a Tree in a Field

Someone recently stated that a lot of people doing digital images go way too far, of course they were nice enough to say I wasn’t one of them, but I feel I should confess that I have been in the past, take a look at this image. At the time I did this, I thought it was great.  I even had it printed and put it into a show last year.  This image was featured in a blog post in June 2011. It is an interesting post, it was at a time when I felt I didn’t know enough about Photoshop and I was trying to teach myself how to use it.  I think I’ve come a long way since then. When I read the comment about digital images, I thought it would be fun to go right back and see what it would look like now if I was doing it.  Would I change much, or would I leave it pretty much as it was. This time it was opened in Camera Raw and …

Standing Tall in Black and White

ReWorking the Back Beach

I don’t normally do this, but I was so impressed with how this image turned out in Black and White, I had to show it first.  So now I will go back to showing the original image. There isn’t that much wrong with this.  The sky is probably too blue and the rocks, in some places, are too yellow.  This image was first processed back in April after a trip to Sorrento back beach.  Some great images were taken, but when I was going through them, this is the one that stood out; begging to be reworked. There isn’t a lot of difference between the two images, but I hope this one is more natural, the sky and the rocks aren’t so saturated.  This one is much better, to my eye anyway. This one has had a filter applied to it from Color Efex.  I usually use the Classical Soft Focus, but this time I tried a different one, I applied the Sunlight filter.  It has created a nice softness to the rocks. Out of …
