Organisation Doesn’t Always Go As Planned

This year I started off so well with my posts, getting them done the day before, and being a lot more organised, that is pretty good for me, I tend not to be too organised, but I am trying to be better at it.  Then, well, my daughter had gastro over the weekend, and guess who got it as well  On top of it all it is my birthday and I am too sick to go anywhere.  A friend had planned a day out for us, but I had to cancel.  Being sick can be so inconvenient sometimes.

So yesterday I was laid out all day, didn’t get any images done, so I have a couple more images that I have done from our trip to Maldon.

LeanneCole-maldon-20130102-6204We noticed this as we were travelling into Maldon.  I don’t quite know what it is, the sign across the road said it was a Dredge Dragline, whatever that is.  We decided to stop on the way back, almost missed it, but managed to stop in time. As it turned out, this wasn’t the only piece of equipment there.

LeanneCole-maldon-20130102-6260This was next to it in the water.  It seems remarkable to see equipment like this just left lying around.  Though, also interesting to see how it is deteriorating in the weather.

I was going to see if I could do some art images with these images, and some others I took, but being sick, it didn’t happen.

I am going back to the couch and feel sorry for myself some more.

  1. Should have gone out and shared ;-)

Hope you feel better soon and happy birthday – well – as happy as it can be with legging it to the loo all the time. ;-)

If I were a child I’d be dreaming of fantasies in the one high off the ground. The machinery might become a playhouse, a corral or a fort. :) Very nice!

    • I think I would have had the same dreams as a child, myself and my brothers would have loved it. Thanks. :)

  3. Even feeling under the weather, you do a remarkable job, Leanne! Thanks for feeding us with such excellent photos! Take care! Thanks very much! Fabio –

  4. Stay warm, lots of fluids and rest. Do you know what that word means? You sick and all, and still you put out a post. Leanne, you are Superwoman!!! I will be praying for you!

    Amy (formerly Registered Nurse)

    • Believe me, Amy, I am resting, I am spending most of my time on the couch or in bed, I am finding naps help a lot. Thank you much, you are a darling.

Sorry to hear you’re crook, and on your birthday also! Hope you bounce back real quick.

  6. Love the second shot but it seemed a little dark to me. I will check it out again at home tonight. I think my monitor at work is on the dark side as I have the same problem with a lot of my own shots. How do you post for the internet? It seems every screen is set up differently.

    • It may be, though I thought the first was more so. I did them on my laptop and it can be a bit hit and miss, depending on the angle of the screen. I have no idea, I think you have to live in hope that most peoples monitors are okay.

    • It really sucks, but what can you do. I am getting better, so hopefully nice birthday wishes later on. Thank you Linda.

  7. I see you’re getting good health advice. Dredges like these were used to sift gravel for gold mining in Virginia City, MT–the abandoned machinery looks like your photos. Nice work, get well.

  8. Happy Birthday! Hope you get feeling better soon… After holiday let down gastro :-(
Thank you again for following my blog.

  9. Thank you for posting this. I hope you feel better very soon! Sending get well wishes your way….

      • Oh…that was obscure. I mean that since you’re sick you might be in bed and that would be a convenient thing to take a picture of. I’m silly. :D

      • Now that makes a lot more sense. I was wondered I had written something and I must have been delirious at the time, haha. I spent most of my time on the couch under a quilt my mother made, but I didn’t even think to get out the camera, sorry.

  10. Sonel says

Great shots as usual Leanne and sorry to hear that you have to spend your birthday at home but I am wishing you a wonderful birthday and sending lots of virtual hugs so you can feel better soon. :D xxx

    • Thank you so much Sonel, it does suck a bit, but hopefully I can have my day out another time. Thank you for all the hugs, I can feel the love. :)

  11. I’m sorry you’re not feeling well on your birthday. You’ll need to make up for that with a double celebration. Happy Birthday! Feel better soon. ~SueBee

  12. Sorry to hear about your illness. And happy birthday even in these circumstances. I sometimes wonder if somebody (fate?) sees our plans as a challenge…The more time I spend planning something the more ways it possibly goes not according to plan…oh well…

    • Thank you so much, I wonder the same sometimes, nothing ever seems to go as planned, always good to expect the unexpected, and go with the flow.

  13. Remarkable rusty old machinery ! :-( …. hope you are feeling better soon Leanne .
You now have a good excuse to really celebrate your Half Birthday like me in July :-)

    • It is so amazing how it just sits there. Thank you Poppytump, I am starting to feel better.
What date shall we celebrate it? :)

      • If we go for the 5th Lol that will be middle for diddle
Mine is the 3rd and yours is the 7th ;-)
We can have a Half Birthday Celebratory Cake Collaboration Pic Lolol

  14. Well, what a trooper you are, feeling ill and still getting a post in! Love the old machinery…. Hope you’re feeling better very soon.

  15. Aw, Honey! Sick is bad enough, but sick on your birthday is a kick in the teeth…
Hope you’re feeling more like celebrating now…
    Love the Rusty Stuff!

    • It really sucks, the worse thing is no hugs or happy birthday kisses, no one wants to come near me.
I am slowly getting much better, hopefully better tomorrow.
      Thank you so much.

  16. Skye says

    Happy Birthday and prayers said that you feel better soon!! {{Hugs}}

  17. That’s a terrible way to have had to celebrate your birthday…..and you missed out on a fun day out….that’s really not fair!
Oh well you’ll just have to make a second plan with double the dose of fun, once you’re recovered :-)
Great rusty old shots…..looks like they’ve seen some action in their time!

    • I will Seonaid, and hopefully soon, I am happy to say that I am feeling much better now, thankfully.
That machinery was a great find, Thank you.

  18. Happy Birthday Leanne – Not exactly the way you would like to spend it I’m sure – but the celebration can be delayed – at least that is an option for you. Great shots of the derelict equipment – I really like the capture of the dredge crane. Equipment such as this is more difficult to “get right” than it would seem. Have some tea and get better soon!

    • It isn’t a great way, but it can be delayed, as you said. It was very hard to photograph, I have to admit, I had the wrong lens on, and should have had the 14-24 on. I have to stop being so lazy when I go out to take photos. Thank you so much, I am definitely feeling a lot better today.

      • Glad to hear – I too have a lazy streak – when I’m out and should really put on the macro, I “lazy out” and opt for getting as close as I can with the normal lens…

      • Maybe we should both try to be better at changing our lenses. I don’t have a macro, but I do have other lenses I can try.

  19. Leanne! this is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing and I hope your 2014 is great, with or without the organization… heehee :D, which by the way, I know how it feels..

    • Thank you so much Patricia, I hope you have a great 2014 as well. Yes, organisation, I need to get better at that.

  20. Did I tell you happy birthday yesterday. I know I wrote to you. Anyway, if not, happy birthday. Did you get anything besides sick for your birthday? I’m sorry you felt so bad, and glad you are improving. I love the equipment photograph. That seems like a perfect one for someone’s business. I just love pictures of run down stuff, though, and I think you do too!

  21. I am sorry to hear you are not well, I hope both your daughter and yourself get well soon – Happy Birthday too!

  22. Neat photos, Leanne—I wonder what they were dredging for? Were there canals there once upon a time?

I hope you feel better soon. My husband came home sick last Friday, and of course, I caught it and strep to boot. It’s definitely no fun being laid up, but on your birthday! Chicken noodle soup is not quite the same as cake. Try to take it easy so you’re on your feet again soon!

    • I suspect they were dredging for gold, not totally sure, and there isn’t a lot of canals there, all very weird.

Being sick sucks, more so on your birthday, but I am starting to feel better which is good. Thank you and you take care too.

      • Thank you. I’ve had more tea in the past three days than is normally consumed in a week!

      • Tea is good, I like tea. I had my first coffee this morning in about 4 days, and it was very nice, so I think I am getting better. Hope the same is happening for you.

  23. Happy Birthday, Leanne. Hope you were able to salvage part of your day.

The mining dredges, it’s easier to abandon the equipment than take it with you.

    • I have postponed it David, so next birthday better be made even more special.
I can understand that, just so strange seeing it left lying there, but lots of people stop to look at it.
      Thank you.

  24. Poor you, Leanne! That’s some rotten timing. Hope you’re feeling better now. They are great images – I can see them being the seed for something very interesting.

    • It was rotten timing, sucked really. I was hoping for the same about the image, so hopefully when I can handle more time at the computer I can see if I can do something with them. I am curious to see what can be done. Thank you Richard.

  25. This is just the kind of thing I love taking photos of. I don’t often see something that large abandoned, though, but a lot of tractors and their implements.

    • I have to say, I was surprised to see it just left there too, it was a lovely surprise to find. Thank you.

      • The last thing I saw like that was when I lived in Iowa. It was an old road grader, the big kind, in about the same condition as your what-a-ya-call-it. It’s definitely not something you see every day.

      • No it certainly isn’t Cris, so weird, so big. I am amazed it hasn’t been pulled apart for the scrap metal. Maybe meant to be left as a relic from a time gone by. I just wish there was some more information there on what it was.

    • I am Carol, I have gone from not wanting any food, to be incredibly hungry all the time, I think I am better. Thank you for thinking of me.

    • Thank you Elen, I have totally recovered. I am always behind with blogs, I never seem to be able to catch up. ;)
