Time for another photo from the school. I went through the images this morning and I decided on one that I could play around with and do some different stuff. I wonder if you will be able to figure it out.
This was done as a HDR image with Photomatix Pro. I think it was with 4 images. I have started noticing some things happening with the HDR processing, which perhaps has always happened, but I am only just starting to notice. I need to keep an eye on it more. I keep getting areas which are grey and sort of washed out. I will have to keep trying stuff to see if I can stop it from happening.
I had to change some things on it. It was very crooked when I first took it. Actually,
you wouldn’t believe how often my shots are crooked, I just don’t seem to be able to make them straight when I am shooting. I always get it wrong.
When I straightened the image I was going to lose the bottom of the bench. I had to make up the right bottom corner. It is great being able to do that. I wonder if you have been able to see what else I did.
I did some of the other processing, like blurring, but I really tried to make it softer. I have been toning down some of the processing that I have been doing. I have been trying some new stuff and not being so heavy.
I saw some work this morning and it got me thinking about the work always being in colour.
How could I not have a go at making the image black and white. I quite like it, I don’t know what you think. I would like to try doing more black and white.

Personally I have never been a Huge fan of B/W unless in portraits and lots of grain, but thats just me 
You are right, I wanted some more rubbish in the image, I wasn’t totally sure about doing it, it is the first time I have really done it. It is one thing to put it in, but it also has to look like it was always there, interesting process.
Hey, I don’t mind you not liking B/W, it is all personal taste. I think some people are too obsessive about it, but hey that’s me. I think it can be good, but it has to be in context. Thanks Rick.

I do like the effect you are getting with the HDR and Photomatix Pro [ not that I know anything about them I'm still on PSE 7 ! ] You have made an ‘ordinary’ shot into something quite different and it takes on a new dimension . I like that . Gives us all in idea of what might be possible . TY Leanne.

I have gone through stages of taking lots of black and white photos but I’ve always returned to colour. I think I generally just prefer coloured images with occasional exceptions. I do like yours though.
I’ve done the same. When I was shooting film, I would take almost all black and white, actually when I first got a SLR that is all I did shoot with. Now I like the option of either or, and like you, nearly always choose colour. Thanks.
I love black and white much more than color. Gives the image a totally different perspective

For this particular image, I think I prefer the colour.

I guess it depends on the feeling & mood you want out of the image. In this case – the lone bench with that background gives it an eerie feel (to me). Halloweenish…
I seem to be getting good at that look RoSy, I am going for abandoned, but I think it works for that too, same look I hope. Thank you.
I like the B/W…
My first thought when I saw the opening image was, “How sad, to leave that carved bench behind…” Then I realized it was your watermark. Clever girl
I have been playing with some stuff, hence the watermark. I am still figuring stuff out, but I like being able to put it somewhere appropriate. Maybe it won’t annoy people so much. Thanks Marie.
The change in the feeling of the picture from color to black and white is sharply different Leanne. I like the feeling of the colored picture the best – again you’ve managed to bring forth something eery for me lol. Many of your pictures would be great covers for spooky stories. I mean that as a compliment – I enjoy that genre of photography and literature.

I have to say, I really like the B&W image – it’s straightforward and there’s a foreboding atmosphere to it. But the colour’s great as well – in this I love the little details, including the red of the dustpan – they’re like clues to a puzzle.
I put the dustpan in and my daughter asked me if it was symbolic, she said the area needs to be cleaned up, so you put that there for cleaning. Haha, and I couldn’t believe you pointed it out. Thank you Richard. I like both, and don’t really have a preference for one or the other.
Certain images done in HDR really make a spectacular display. I love the feel of the photo. You did an excellent job. I love the B&W too.
They can Angelia, certainly, I tend to do all my images, but lately I have been looking at some and not doing it. It can be beautiful though. Thank you, glad you like the image.
I think the composition is rather good …your processing gives it a bit of punch…especially on the b/w image …..

I have to admit Anne, that have a good image to start with helps. I just play and try different things. I don’t have a formula, though there are often things I try for each image. Most images like this start with being a HDR, but HDR done as naturally as possible. Thank you so much Anne.

Wonderfully executed, Leanne, with the added gift of learning new things! Really love the B/W image…some shots just don’t take it very well, but this one manages to be enhanced by the conversion…it’s something to be proud of, and if my walls weren’t already so full of my own stuff, I’d ask permission to print, then hang it! Kudos here, for experimenting!
Thank you 1000, I am really enjoying the experimenting. I am learning so many new things. I didn’t know if the B/W would work, but it seemed like a good idea to try it, and it seems to have been fairly popular which is nice. I know what you mean about full walls, a friend of mine asked me the other day if I had considered producing a book, do you think people would be interested in that? Looking for ideas that will stop me from having to go and get a job.
I’ve always wanted to do a coffee table book! Instead, last summer, I made two video slide shows: “Walls of Genova” and “Doors of Italy” and put them up on YouTube. A lot cheaper than publishing…think I’ll put up “Doors” tomorrow!
I must take a look. I have to admit, my friend thought of the book as a way of selling some work, to help me support my photography habit.
I do like the black-white version. I wonder how it would look in a sepia tone–a monochrome of the color of the bench? In my mind it seems like it would work out well.
I also like the added bits. Very convincing. I never would have known they weren’t there originally.
I don’t know, I hadn’t really thought of it, I just changed it to B/W to see if it would work in that. There are so many possibilities, maybe one Friday I will try it out.

I like the black & white as well, and sometimes seeing what you do I feel like when I’m watching a magician… how did she do those tricks… straightening the image, adding in things

It’s not my way, I like the trick/illusion component of a magic act and the how would ruin it for me, but some people really like to know the techniques… if they want to pay you to show them, I say do it
