On a Cloudy Sunday

This Light on the Stairs

It was cloudy last Saturday and today is a cloudy Sunday.  I have been so happy with the  photos I got on that Saturday and it has been fantastic to share them all with you.  I have a very busy week coming up, the UCI World Track Championships are in Melbourne and I will be taking photos at them.  I might have to share some.  I will be in among the best track riders in the world, all hoping to prove themselves for the coming Olympic Games.  I hope you don’t mind if I share them with you.

But not today.

You must remember this arcade, it is the Block, it is one I have shown on many occasions.  I tried putting the camera down at ground level and took this image.  I really like the way you can see all the way to the end.  The colours are warm and inviting.  The people are there, but they aren’t dominant and blend into the image.  I was really happy with this image.  Changing your perspective can be a great thing at times.

This image, and the next are both HDRs processed using Photomatix and then post edited in Photoshop CS5.

This image is at the other end of the Arcade, basically looking towards where the other one was taken.  This part of the arcade is straighter, but I like the iron work and that light that it is holding.  Did you notice it?  I should probably play with it more, so that the light stands out a lot more.  I am probably the only one that sees it.

This image was also done the same way.

Daylight savings finished today.  We got to sleep in an extra hour.  It also means that I won’t have to get up so early to see the sunrise, or stay up later to see the sunset.  I am starting to wonder if the Australian Winter is going to be a really good time to take photos.  I am certainly willing to test out my hypothesis.

  1. I really like the shot where the camera is down low, Its really makes for a better image. I think this is because we are not used to seeing things from this perspective.

    • Thank you. I like that perspective as well, and will be doing more of it I think. YOu do get to see so much more.

I think you will have to get up an hour earlier to see the sunrise, won’t you? Now I’m confused…anyway great colours in the shots.

    • Once winter gets here the sunrises later, shorter days. In the height of summer you have to get up so early, whereas in winter the sunrise is around 7am, a much more respectable time. :)

  3. Every time you show us this mall, I want to visit! The architecture is so beautiful.

    • You will have to come one day and let me show it to you. We can buy chocolate at Haighs, have high tea at the Hopetoun Tea Rooms, or have lunch at one of the many places there.

      • I have an aunt who lives near the city of Melbourne who keeps encouraging me to visit. I am hoping that one day I will be able to – your suggested itenary sounds like it is my cup of tea :)

    • They are cool, clouds really can be a photographers friend. They can make a boring photo turn into something magical. I love them.
