When I was in Melbourne, or in the city the other day I am sure I mentioned that the reason was to go to National Gallery of Victoria. Our state gallery is divided into two places, one is in Federation Square, the other in the older building down the road.  Photography is allowed in both places as long as you don’t use a flash and it isn’t a special exhibition.

This set of stairs is in the new gallery.  They go up two floors and are quite scary to walk down.  My children used to love coming down them when they smaller.  Of course we never walked up them.

This gallery has all the Australian Art and has quite a modern feel.  The building is like the rest of Federation Square, odd lines and angles.  It is quite a weird and wonderful place.  I will get some photos of it one day.  It has become the centre of the city.  I didn’t really take many photos here, I don’t know why, but I should have.

This is the other gallery, this gallery houses all the non Australian art, though, some Australian stuff does creep in, like the statues in front of this window.  If you look closely at the window, you can see it looks a little strange, it has water running down it on the outside.  This gallery is famous for its water wall.  Children like to play in it, they put their hands on the window to see the water going over it.  Even adults do.

On the outside of the gallery is a moat, it runs nearly all the way around the gallery.  This is part of a water feature attached to it.  It was turned off for many years because of the drought, it is nice to see it working again.

This is a quick post, sorry, very busy day ahead.  I’m off to the cycling, Victorian Masters Track Championships today, then out tonight.  Too busy.  I wanted to get something up early so I wouldn’t have to worry about it later on.
