End of another day and yet my post is so late. I have been debating what to put up and in the end decided to brave the heat and go the river. This is the river that I took photos of in the post called Restful Sunday. It is the Yarra River, winding it way past where I live to the city.
It was lovely being by the river, but so many trees have grown up around the sides of the river it was hard to find anywhere to take any photos. There was one spot where I could get close, but there is a lovely suspension bridge that goes over it and I just couldn’t get a good shot of the river and the bridge.
This part of the river is really nice, there are rocks in it everywhere and platypus live in it. I have heard you can see them, of course you wouldn’t see them during the day, they are nocturnal.
This is a fairly common place for swimmers. When I first went there was no one there swimming, but as I was heading back some people had arrived. I hope they didn’t mind me photographing them. My vantage point was quite high.
This part of the river is littered with debris, rubbish and broken trees. The water has rushed through here a lot recently and has got very high. I should go down the next time we have a lot of rain and see what sort of photos I get then. It is very low now and very calm.
All three images were taken using a neutral density filter and are all HDR images.
I’m off to my mothers tomorrow. Looking forward to doing some HDR images of stuff up there. Should be good. Going to be really hot though, apparently 35 to 40 each day. Bit of a bugger. If you live in Victoria, so cool. If you live in the Northern Hemisphere think of us as you are freezing, we will certainly be wishing we were where you are.

Needed my shot of green for the day, thank you! By the time I finished walking through the gardens yesterday, my hands were so cold I could not push buttons on the camera!

I saw your shots, beautiful. I was dripping when I finished mine. Couldn’t wait to get back into the comfort of the air conditioned car. It is so strange, I was thinking how I have been following you and your blog for almost 12 months and when I started I was in winter and you summer, our images didn’t look that dissimilar, but now they are so different.

Wow – 40? That’s as hot as we used to get in the part of the US where I grew up…
I tolerate the cold much better than the heat!
Love your river – looks like a nice place to cool off!

Yeah, 40 is hot. It gets hotter all the time, a few years ago we had a day of 46 or 47, we also had the worse bush fires the country had ever seen and around 170 people lost their lives in it. I think people refer to it as a fire storm. We know that day now as Black Saturday. It was scary too because it was all happening not too far away from here, one part was maybe 20kms away.
I am like you, much prefer the cold. We have air conditioning, but it isn’t as good as it should be.
The river is beautiful.

Thanks Paula, it was one of the only ways to photograph it, quite frustrating. Worked out well though.
