My husband went for a bike ride today, all the way to a place called Warburton (look up Warburton, Victoria, Australia on google maps). He goes there to ride up a mountain. He usually only rides up once, but I told him to do it twice and I would come and pick him up. Road trip.
One of the things that is interesting about Warburton is that the Yarra River come from that area. It winds it’s way from Warburton, past our place in Heidelberg and then on into the city. I really wanted to get some photos of the river up there, because it is very different to the river near me and very different to the river I have taken photos of in the city.
I had intended Sunday’s to be about flowers, but well, it isn’t always possible. I did some photos that were near the river.
I don’t know what happened, but I was having a lot of trouble getting these images. It isn’t a fantastic image, but, but I really like it, I like the colours I think. You decide whether or not you like it.
I did have a neutral density filter on the lens and a polarising filter. I wanted to cut down the glare and the sunshine on the water. I don’t think it made for great photos of the flowers.
Now onto the river.
This is a HDR I did of the river, didn’t really work too well. I will master this HDR.
This is another HDR and I think this one works so much more. The sun was really bright, but putting the neutral density 8+ filter and the polarising filter really helped cut the light down and I was able to get that water marshmallow effect. I was really happy that I could get it.
This is the same image, but this is just a single image that I have edited slightly. I don’t know which one I like better, what do you think?
This is also a single image. I did some work to it and it was more lit up than this, but I quite like the moodiness of it.
I just couldn’t get over how different the river is there. You could walk across it. The river can be quite stunning around here as well. If I can I might go out in the morning and get some photos of it at a place near me.
I like the HDR version more… something about the tones/lighting….

I think you could be right, I also think I got the HDR right and didn’t take it too far. Every time I do one I learn something new.
What are wonderful place; you’ve really captured some beautiful shots there Leanne.
It was beautiful, though I wish I had better shoes on and was more prepared to do some more walking, I could have got a lot more.
I like the river shots but I can also see why you like the flower shots. It’s frustrating when the camera does not capture what we see, but I like what the camera captured anyway.
My hubby is a cyclist too, although we are in winter now so he cannot ride as much. He is riding a 200k ride for cancer in June so he’ll hit the road as soon as the snow stops. He was able to ride right up until last weekend.
It is frustrating, though I would have been happy if all the flowers had been in focus. I like the colours and river as the background. I should have spent more time on it.
My husband is preparing for a 200km ride as well, called the Alpine Classic, 200km up and down mountains. He has done it a couple of times, but is no where near ready this year, it is going to be a hard slog for him, the ride is in 2 weeks.
