From the photos yesterday, and how foggy it was in the morning, well, on the way to the racing that morning, Shirley told me about a bridge in the next town, Taradale. She aid it was also a railway bridge and still being used today.
It was really foggy in Malmsbury and there was no point of taking any photos there. On the way to Taradale there were patches of sun, and it gave me a glimmer of hope that Taradale might not be as foggy. Here is the bridge as I found it that morning.
As you can see it was foggy there. Normally if it very heavy fog I don’t bother taking photos. What is the point? The photos will be dull and there will be no life in them, so I usually try to only do it if there is some sunlight trying to break through. The sun was trying to break through, but the fog was too dense. I don’t mind this image, there is a feeling of isolation, yet you know the bridge is for travelling on. Fog can make things very enclosed.
The bridge, itself, has a similar history to the one that I showed you the photos of yesterday. I took a photo of the history.
If you are interested in how it was built, there you go.
I went to photograph the racing at Harcourt after that. Day spent mainly on my own, and for not much reward, but I suppose that is how it goes. On the way home, I could have just got on the Calder Freeway and headed straight back to Melbourne, but decided to stay off the freeway for awhile and go back to Taradale and the bridge and see what it was like in the afternoon.
It was a completely different scene. The sun was setting, but was still high enough to get some photos. It looked so different to that of the morning. I was really happy with the photos in the afternoon. Though it is still just a bridge.
I am always amazed at things built like this. There is something beautiful in them, that the bridges and stuff they build today don’t have. It is functional, but also great to look at. The bridges they build today are not so beautiful. Perhaps Engineers like them because the understand the maths or whatever behind them, but I wish we could build things again that aren’t ugly as soon as they are built.
I am back to the cycling today. Day 2, today is the Country Track championships. I am very sore from yesterday and still very tired. Usually they put all these events over 2 days each, but this year they have crammed each into one day. I didn’t even stay for the whole session yesterday, but think I will have to today. I left at 5.30, so I have no idea what time they finished. So long day ahead. I hope your Sunday is being spent doing stuff you enjoy.
I really like the foggy image – great atmosphere and I like the colour.
Thanks Liz, but I have a confession, I put the colour there. It was so grey and horrible, so I thought, I would warm it up a bit. I hope that doesn’t detract from the image.
I should have picked that really shouldn’t I? I think I’ve become so used to seeing manipulated images that it struck me as normal. I still like it very much – its the asthetic I like so whether it is accurate or not doesn’t really matter.
